This class invites young artists to explore the exciting world of printmaking! Each week, students will learn a new technique, allowing them to experiment and customize their projects to match their creative vision.
Techniques covered include monoprint methods, such as foam carving, gelli & foil prints, as well as relief and texture printing. Students will also design their own abstract prints and custom stamps. It’s a fun, hands-on experience where every artist creates something truly unique!
Sample class topics may include:
- Topic 1: Abstract Squeegee Prints
- Project: Create colorful, abstract prints using a squeegee to drag and blend paint, introducing students to movement, color mixing, and expressive mark-making in printmaking.
- Topic 2: Foil Transfer Prints
- Project: Explore color blending and printmaking by using foil as a surface for painting, then transferring the painted design onto wet paper.
- Topic 3: Miniature Eraser Stamps & Pattern Printing
- Project: Learn how to design, carve, and use small eraser stamps to create patterned prints.
- Topic 4: Monoprinting with Gelli Plates
- Project: Learn the process of monoprinting with gelli plates, experimenting with layering and texture in prints.
- Topic 5: Textured Collagraph Prints
- Project: Create textured collagraph plates using found objects and print from them to explore texture and composition in printmaking.
- Topic 6: Abstract Prints & Print Collage
- Project: Combine various printmaking techniques to create abstract prints, assembling them into a final collage.
Some projects may take multiple weeks to complete, and students are encouraged to work at their own pace to personalize each project. Not all topics listed will be completed by each student, as the focus is on exploration and creativity rather than finishing every piece.
