Calling all Pokémon trainers! With the Pokémon Championship approaching, students will build and catch their favorite Pokémon, rescue Pikachu from Team Rocket, take a ride on the S.S. Anne to uncover rare and mystic Pokémon, and battle to see who will hold the title of Pokémon Master. Come along on our journey to catch 'em all!!
Class will follow the below weekly themes:
Week 1: Pallet Town House
- Learn ball and socket joints and framed construction to build an A-frame house.
Week 2: Pokemon Catcher
- Explore balance and center of gravity by building a fulcrum-based Pokemon catcher.
Week 3: Pokemon Gym
- Introduce scale modeling and hinges to create a gym with swinging obstacles.
Week 4: Water Mount Pokemon
- Build a pullback motor vehicle to see stored energy in action, decorated as a water Pokemon.
Week 5: Luminous Cave
- Use hinges in a new way and create a Zubat hanging in a brick-modeled cave.
Week 6: Defense Move
- Discover traction and RPM by building a high-speed spinning platform.
Week 7: Legendary Pokemon
- Build a large, movable Pokemon using ball and socket joints and a box frame for support.
Week 8: Pokemon Evolution
- Use worm and clutch gears to rotate a platform showcasing Pokemon evolution.
Week 9: Pokemon Stadium
- Build a scale-modeled stadium sturdy enough for Pokemon battles.
Week 10: Pokemon Battle
- Explore gear meshing to create battle tracks that advance Pokemon forward.
Week 11: Professor Oak’s Lab
- Use ball and socket joints to open a lab structure and see inside.
Week 12: Meowth Balloon
- Learn gear ratios by creating Meowth’s balloon with eccentric lifting motion.
Week 13: S. S. Anne
- Use cams and worm gears to mimic the S.S. Anne’s up-and-down motion.
Week 14: Pokemon Trainer
- Experiment with torque and 90-degree gear angles to launch Pokeballs.
Week 15: Melee Attack
- Use conveyor belts to power various “attack” attachments.
Week 16: Projectile Launcher
- Create a launcher with rubber bands to demonstrate elastic potential energy and friction.
Week 17: Rapid Spin Move
Build a Pokemon spinner to learn how gear ratios and symmetry affect torque motion.
