Karate is a dynamic martial art that teaches children discipline, respect, and self-confidence while helping develop physical coordination, balance, and strength. This after-school program introduces students to the fundamentals of Karate in a fun and supportive environment. Classes are designed to build self-awareness, self-control, and teamwork, while also offering an outlet for energy and a foundation in mindfulness through movement.
No experience is necessary, and all activities are adapted to be age-appropriate, safe, and aligned with students’ developmental stages. The program culminates in a final demonstration or belt ceremony to celebrate student progress.
Class will focus on:
- Week 1: Dojo etiquette & respect – Bow-in, posture practice, dojo rules
- Week 2: Fundamental stances – Front stance, back stance drills
- Week 3: Punches & breathing – Jab-cross + breath control (kihap)
- Week 4: Kicks & accuracy – Front & side kicks to targets
- Week 5: Basic blocks – Rising block, down block drills
- Week 6: Movement & kata intro – Mini-kata sequence: stances + strikes
- Week 7: Self-control & focus – Partner “freeze punch” game
- Week 8: Defense drills – Block & counter combo practice
- Week 9: Karate games & flow – Blocking tag, target relay
- Week 10: Application & combos – Create-your-own combo sequence
- Week 11: Performance prep – Final kata & skills polishing
- Week 12: Demo & celebration – Belt presentation + skills demo
