Students will learn the fundamentals of basketball with fun skills and drills to help improve their game both offensively and defensively.
Conditioning and footwork will also be incorporated to enhance a player’s athleticism. This class helps develop basketball knowledge and a love of the game!
Class Focus:
- Fundamental Skills: Dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense
- Athletic Development: Conditioning and footwork
- Game Sense: Basic basketball rules and strategies
Warm-up:
- Light cardio activity (jogging, high-knees, butt kicks)
- Dynamic stretches (arm circles, leg swings, torso twists)
- Ball handling drills (dribbling between legs, behind back, figure-eight)
Skill Development:
- Dribbling focus (low dribble, change of pace, obstacle course)
- Passing focus (chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass, partner passing drills)
- Shooting focus (free throws, layups, shooting from different spots on the court)
Game Play (Simple games and drills that incorporate the skills learned):
- Dribbling Relay: Divide the class into teams and have them dribble a basketball to a cone and back.
- Passing Game: Players pass the ball around a circle, focusing on accuracy and speed.
- Shooting Contest: Set up different shooting stations (free throws, layups, short shots) and have players compete for the highest score.
- Defensive Slides: Practice defensive slides by simulating offensive moves.
