This class is for students who have prior knowledge of the basic ballet positions and can demonstrate plie, tendu and degage. Attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance as the student continues to grow. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work as they begin to concentrate on repetition and retention. Body alignment and muscle awareness will determine progress. Students will focus on positions of the arms, direction of the body and increased movement vocabulary. The Lyrical component of this class combines techniques and skills from ballet and jazz. Students will also explore how lyrical dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract.
There is an optional parent class observation the week of March 7th. The 10th Annual Dance Performance is Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 10:00am. The performance will be held in the Eller Theatre on the Midway campus. The duration of this class is 90 minutes, 30 minutes longer than traditional Dance Academy classes at Hillcrest. If you are uncertain as to whether your child is ready for this class, please contact Jessica Robinson at email@example.com.
