Smart Girls Read
Do you love to read? Do you love to talk about books? Do you read more in the summer? If so, Smart Girls Read is the place to be for you this summer. We will read one book a month (June, July, August) and meet to discuss the book and its themes while making new friends!
For our June kick-off event, we’ll be reading The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart. Here’s a brief synopsis of the book: Five years. That’s how long Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, have lived on the road in an old school bus, crisscrossing the nation. It’s also how long ago Coyote lost her mom and two sisters in a car crash. Coyote hasn’t been home in all that time, but when she learns the park in her old neighborhood is being demolished – the very same park where she, her mom, and her sisters buried a treasured memory box – she devises an elaborate plan to get her dad to drive 3,600 miles back to Washington state in four days…without him realizing it.
Discussion is facilitated by Dr. Kelly Jameson, a therapist and speaker in Dallas who specializes in teens! Dr. Jameson has loved reading since middle school when she was captivated by the books series The Babysitter’s Club and Sweet Valley High. She has been reading ever since and believes books help us better understand ourselves and the world around us. Sign up today to reserve your spot!
